Christmas tree for Rome bidden farewell from Bavaria

On 1 December, residents of Waldmünchen and the entire region bade farewell to their Christmas tree for Rome. On the market square, spectators and representatives from politics, business and the clergy were waiting for the orange Rädlinger low-loader trailer laden with the 25 metre-high spruce tree, which drove into Waldmünchen, accompanied by the Schwarze Panduren (Black Pandurs). After the ceremonial act, the speakers sent the tree on its way with their best wishes.

The next day, the heavy load stopped in Regensburg and in Munich. Bishop Rudolf Vorderholzer blessed the tree on the Regensburg Nibelungen Bridge amid great media interest. Secretary of State Bernd Sibler received the convoy in the regional capital and wished the tree all the best as well as good symbolic power as a sign of peace. The Christmas tree from the Upper Palatinate caused a stir on Odeon Square. This was also due to the ceremonial trumpeters and the fire show of the Trenck Association. 7 pm then saw the start of the journey towards Rome, where the tree is due to arrive on Thursday evening.
